Introduction
WiCyS club is thrilled to announce Hacknology 2024, an online Data Science Hackathon designed to inspire innovation and cultivate the analytical talents of Hofstra students. This fully remote event allows participants to dive into the dynamic world of data science and emerge with practical, impactful solutions.
Event Details

  • Dates: April 19th - April 22nd, 2024 - Venue: Online (Fully Remote)
  • Hacknology Opening Ceremony:
  • When: 04/19
  • Where: PLAZA middle & east
  • Time: 6:00 PM – 7:30PM
  • Results – TBA (a week from last day of competition, approximate date: 04/29)

Eligibility

  • Open exclusively to Hofstra University students (undergraduate and graduate, any major). - Beginners are encouraged to participate.
  • Teams can consist of 1 to 3 members.

Requirements

  • Projects must be functional to be eligible for prizes.

Participation Rules

  • The WiCyS club reserves the right to extend both the submission deadline and the winner announcement date.
  • Only Hofstra University students are allowed to participate. No external entries will be considered.

Code of Conduct

  • Participants must maintain a respectful and professional demeanor at all times. - Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.

Intellectual Property

  • All submitted work must be original. No plagiarism or use of unauthorized materials will be tolerated.
  • Participants retain ownership of their projects, but by entering the hackathon, they grant WiCyS club the right to use their projects for promotional purposes.

Judging Criteria

Creativity: Novelty of the idea and approach.
Execution: Functionality and technical implementation. Impact: Potential real-world applicability and usefulness. Presentation: Clarity and persuasiveness of the pitch.

Technical Requirements

  • Projects must be developed during the hackathon period. Pre-existing projects are not permitted. - Use of open-source libraries is allowed, provided they are properly credited.

Team Collaboration

  • Participants must work in their registered teams. No switching teams mid-event. - Collaboration among teams is not permitted.

External Assistance

  • Teams are not allowed to outsource work to non-team members.
  • Mentors will be available, but they can only provide guidance, not direct code contributions.

Code of Ethics

  • Participants must commit to ethical hacking practices. Projects designed to cause harm, violate privacy, or engage in illegal activities will result in immediate disqualification.
  • Follow ACM code of ethics as well ( https://www.acm.org/code-of-ethics )

Compliance with University Rules

  • Participants must also adhere to all Hofstra University policies regarding student conduct, especially those related to online behavior.

Emergency Situations

  • In the event of technical diBiculties or unforeseen circumstances, participants should immediately notify the organizers.

Disqualification

  • The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any team that breaches the rules or engages in behavior deemed unethical or unfair.
